Bible Study Tips for Beginning Readers

Have your own Bible time!
- Get a translation of the Bible that is close to your reading level. (The New International Reader’s Version and the New Living Translation might be good beginning translations.)
- If you have a hard time reading the words, listen to someone else read the words and you follow along in your Bible. That will help you focus, help you learn, and help you develop your reading skills. There are apps and websites that will read the words to you for free. (BibleGateway.com or YouVersion Bible app)
- Read through a book of the Bible.  Don’t just skip around in the Bible every day.  And read small sections at a time.  Don’t try to get through a lot.  Read less and really learn it.
- Reread verses or sections you already read.  And reread again.  And reread again.  Rereading helps you understand, helps you remember, and helps you develop reading skills.
- Pick a verse or two to really think about throughout your day.  Write it on a little piece of paper you can keep near you or put a picture of it on your device if you have one.  Think about the verse and what it means throughout your day.
- Pray.  God is the one who teaches us and helps to us obey.  Ask God to help you.  Ask God to make you more like Jesus as you study His Word and obey it.
